I recently sat down with New Zealand’s Minister for Climate Change, James Shaw. In addition to serving in parliament, Shaw hosts a podcast called What Comes After What Comes Next.
🌹 Retirement pensions are not the dole! (And I'm with Bill Mitchell - we should not use that term, it's derogatory.) All your spending is net currency injection to the rest of society in your community. Maybe the USA needs you more than NZ?
I don't know what the attitude towards the poor is in NZ; probably the old English one? (the Victorian poorhouse, for example), but in the US, where everything is judged by its dollar worth, the poor are openly despised.
Since most people here are too lazy to learn MMT, I don't think that my limited ability to contribute to the GDP is appreciated as much as it might be.
Thank you so much Stephanie. Activists have been trying here in NZ for years to get government ministers to listen, and I'm not at all miffed that it took a heavy hitting MMT'er from the USA to get them to listen.
The big guns are forming a gun battery - watch out neoliberal climate change denying dinosaurs.
Sorry, does New Zealand have a fiat currency?
We sure do have a fiat currency, and a floating exchange rate. There are no excuses for involuntary unemployment existing in NZ.
I think I'd like to move there. It sounds beautiful. Sadly, I am retirement age and live on the Dole, so I don't think your government will want me.
