Awesome explication of what is happening in real time and its implications for democratic governance. A must read beyond the Lens community.

Susan, you’re 💯 correct. I’m contacting my Bishop over social concerns.

You are far too mild.

It's time to revoke musks citizenship, invalidated by his lies on applications, arrest his little troup of idiots, and impeach, convict and finally imprison the orange felon once and for all.

It's always worth remembering there is no law without enforcement.

Here we have the different approaches in the public sector and the private sector highlighted. The public sector has a tendency to see following the rules as more important than anything. The private sector has a tendency to see delivering an outcome as more important than anything and if that means bending the rules, so be it.

Ultimately if the executive starts delaying payments approved by Congress unreasonably, then it will be for the courts to issue the necessary injunctions and/or jail time to the perpetrators.

The outcomes they are seeking are not in the public interest.

Essentially you are describing a failed state. Somalia or Libya or something like that would be a fair analogy

I'm describing a private sector attitude, rather than a public sector one.

Which is essentially is that it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Trump will ignore the courts..... if the Court does not actively join the coup. I don't have an answer ..but I am very scared and I wonder why do one else is actually doing anything to stop it. Maybe we have to get through the talking stage first. But they can do a lot of damage while we are still talking.

I would suggest...hope Kelton will forgive me...that we don't spend much time on the MMT sovereign currency argument. Most people won't get it and it won't help meet the emergency.

It seems to me, & the 2014 Princeton Study, that Congress is already a WILLING Captive of the Corporate Oligarchs! We're DOOMED! We need to stop pretending we have something other than a #CorporateUNIPARTY! The defection to Red Note has opened the eyes of many as to what Life in the USA COULD be like, if Congress actually SERVED the Nation, CARED about the People & the Future, & INVESTED in needed Soft & Hard Infrastructure as CHINA has done! Has anyone looked at heir frickin KINDERGARTENS? That is what trying to OPTIMIZE everyone's Potential looks like!

We are headed toward a very dark future. Trump already controls the military, and this week he will gain control of the justice department. Appeals to the rule of law will fall on deaf ears. And anyway, how many divisions does the Supreme Court have?

It's an open question as to whether Trump will allow the 2026 midterm elections to take place. He's probably thinking along these lines: "As long as Mike Johnson is the House Speaker, there's probably not much chance of me and/or Vance being assassinated. I mean, who wants that creep to be president? BTW, the reason Musk likes hanging out at Mar-a-Lago and the White House is because he enjoys secret service protection. He's one guy who needs it. But here's the thing. We are going to do so much intentional damage to the country and the constitution (I don't know if we'll "burn it all down" like Steve Bannon wants, but it'll be pretty bad) that's it's a good bet Democrats will take back control of the House (and maybe the Senate) in 2026. And that means we'll then have a Democratic House Speaker, who will ascend to the presidency if anything happens to me and Vance. Woke Democrats will be lining up to take us out. Our lives will be in mortal danger, so why would I take that chance? I'm making too much money to let the voters screw this up. My mind's made up. No midterm elections. They can't hold 'em if we arrest everyone."

Don't snicker. This is where things are headed.

IMPEACH! Lawyers, US Attys, Constitutional scholars have been raising alarms for tRump's disregard of our laws and the Constitution. He has broken his oath to defend them (even though he had his fingers crossed behind his back with the hand he did not place on his tRump Bible).

Asha Rangappa, frmr Special FBI agent and,now Asst Dean at Yale, wrote a substack newsletter with her theory as to why Musk was hell bent on accessing the Tresaury's payment system. It all started with his over paying for Twitter and him firing 50% of his employees to recoup his loss. It goes downhill from there with schemes to charge members and fever dreams of creating an "Everything app and make 'Xitter' the center of people's financial world under his control. Lawsuits are surrounding him from all over. So he comes up with a 'master plan' with his "Everything" app. And that is where the Treasury coup comes in, since he is now cleverly "hidden" by tRump's EO from the public. Musk is now in a reconstituted agency, the US DOGE Service, and safely protected from FICA. There is no mention of cost cutting. The new mission is to "modernize Fed Tech/Software to maximize govt "efficiency" . And the newly sworn in Treas Sec Scott Bessent was stupid enough to fall for this line of B.S. and give psycho Musk access to the sensitive payment system that could affect Nat'l Security concerns. If that is not enough, also included in his scheme is the Crypto coins replacing fiat currency!

There is enough, so far, with tRump's lawlessness and his co-president's Treasury coup to start IMPEACHMENT process for both tRump and Vance (who happily participates in the lawlessness because his hero, Curtis Yarvin, claims the current demise of democracy calls for a Tech CEO dictator to oversee govt).

Mary Trump warns we must do everything we can to throw sand or wrenches into the gears of govt to stop her uncle. My answer is IMPEACH. tRump will take more revenge but it could not get any worse or dangerous. By some miracle the Magas might convict him/them. In a lameduck admin and we might retake the House in 2026. IMHO.

If DOGE was about GE it would be going after the department that launders the majority of the discretionary budget whilst having never passed an audit... along with the Intel agencies and law enforcement.

Comment on a "a band of lunatics" acting "in brazen disregard for the rule of law"

Badges?

Where are your badges? Without legal authority, in defiance of Congressional appropriations, in violation of laws, with disdain and contempt for the Constitution ,Trump, Musk and their goons falsely claim the power to sabotage and dismantle the operations and institutions of the U.S. Government that they dislike, and capture those that they can use for themselves. They issue invalid orders and lawlessly seize and occupy agency offices and systems to do it.

They remind me of the famous scene in the movie Treasure of the Sierra Madre when banditos ridiculously claiming to be federal "Mountain Police" confront Bogie defending himself behind a rock pile. Bogie: "If you're the police, where are your badges?" Bandito: "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!" Bogie stood his ground. https://www.youtube.com/watch?

I still don't understand Musk's motivations for "monitoring" and "making it more efficient" of treasury payment system. While giving Musk access to this system is bad, he cannot legally deny/block any payments approved by Congress. And if any entity or a person do gets blocked, it's a ground for impeachment of Trump, lawsuit against Trump administration for illegal action.

One thing i suspect is that payment system may get weaponized during debt ceiling crisis (which happens every few months now) or government shutdown situation. An honest management of payment system, as has been happening since many years meant unbiased dispensation of payments. But all this may change when current Trump regime & Musk are in a situation where they can use the pretext for rationing payments in very biased and political way. Blue states may see the brunt of this as their paychecks (agencies, officials) will be cut in biased way.

OK, this is why Democracy suchs. What we need is better leaders who do the right thing for all, not just a few. So I propose Universal Living Capital - what it costs to live wherever, provided by the Central Bank. Than an immediate debt Jubilee, again paid for by the Central Bank. This is not debt forgiveness, but private debt transfer to public sector through Treasury Notes, about 20 Trill should do it. The treasuries are purchased by the banks, than as they fail, the central bank buys back the Notes and upon doing so, writes them off. The central bank can start by writing off the notes currently held in their portfolio. Private debt is paid in full, banks can start lending to business and the government can buy us all another round. Dont forget to wipe the foam from your beard.
