It’s hard for me to wrap my head around it, but MMT is 28 years old today. The collection of ideas at the core of this macroeconomic framework wouldn’t come to be known as “MMT” until much later, but the impetus for what has become the most robust challenge to orthodox economics in my lifetime can be traced to this comment from Warren Mosler, which appeared on the Post Keynesian Thought (PKT) list-serve on January 29, 1996.
Warren’s post sparked engagement within a subgroup of academic circles and ultimately persuaded many of us to adopt what is commonly referred to as the MMT Lens. So here’s to 28 years of getting the big stuff right!
