As many of you probably know, the Levy Economics Institute is home to many MMT scholars. It’s where both Hyman Minsky and Wynne Godley decided to finish their illustrious careers. It’s where I spent a year working on my PhD dissertation alongside MMT economists L. Randall Wray and Mathew Forstater back in 1997/8. It’s where Pavlina Tcherneva and other MMT scholars—including Wray—teach today.
The Institute is nestled on the edge of the Bard College campus in upstate New York. It’s a stunning facility with beautiful gardens, hiking trails, and an incredible view of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains.
This summer, the Institute will host a weeklong seminar that will bring together graduate students, early-career academics, and other professionals for a deep dive into a wide array of topics, including MMT, Godley’s stock-flow approach to macro modeling, Minskyian analysis, crypto, central bank digital currencies, and much more.
There is space for 60 participants, and you must apply to reserve a spot. Admission will include provision of room and board on the Bard College campus. The fee for the entire seminar is $3,000, and financial assistance is available for those who need it. I’ll be there, along with many others:
Confirmed faculty include:* Rania Antonopoulos, Raul Carrillo, Christine Desan, Dirk Ehnts, Steven Fazzari, Mathew Forstater, Rohan Grey, Farley Grubb, John Harvey, John Haskell, Geoffrey Ingham, Fadhel Kaboub, Stephanie Kelton, Matthew Klein, Yan Liang, Bill Mitchell, Richard Murphy, Yeva Nersisyan, Michalis Nikiforos, Dimitri Papadimitriou, Paul Sheard, Ndongo Samba Sylla, Pavlina Tcherneva, Eric Tymoigne, L. Randall Wray, and Gennaro Zezza. TBD: Nina Banks, Sandy Darity, Darrick Hamilton, and Adam Tooze.
It’s an incredible opportunity for those interested in engaging at a high level. Past summer sessions have included entertainment, short excursions, volleyball, and other ways to break up the day.
